UN Human Rights Office Expresses Concern Over US Attack on Venezuela

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has expressed concern over the situation in Venezuela following an attack by the United States, emphasizing that the use of force or threats against the territorial integrity and political independence of countries is incompatible with the principles of international law.

According to released information, on January 3rd, the United States carried out an attack, arresting Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, and his wife, and removing them from the country. Reports indicate that Maduro has been transferred to New York to face charges related to drug trafficking.

In a statement, the High Commissioner for Human Rights said that this US action undermines fundamental principles of international law and could have serious consequences for the global order. The agency added that although the United States justified its attack based on several reasons, accountability for human rights violations cannot be ensured through military intervention and breaches of international law.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights further stated that the fate and future of Venezuela must be determined solely by the people of the country, and no foreign power has the right to impose its political will upon it.
